Goals of the Alliance

The goals of the VVPA are to:

• Assess existing land use, transportation and ecological conditions;
• With consensus from the affected residents create a comprehenisve plan with a scope including Schlage Lock, Leland Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard, and promoting wise development for Visitacion Valley;
• Capitalize on ongoing community projects in the area, such as the Visitacion Valley Greenway, the Third St. Light Rail, the new Hertage Homes, Britton Courts and John King Senior Housing, Executive Park Development and future development on the Baylands.

The goals would be implemented by:

• intensive/extenisve community outreach;
• a series of community meetings discussing needs and desires of residents with accompanying surveys and visual preference presentations;
• development of a comprehensive plan over a period of one year with emphasis on community input and education.

Anticipated future benefits include:

• bringing badly needed services to the community, such as an upgraded and expanded commercial shopping area, educational facilities, park and recreational open spaces;
• beautifying the Valley and unifying adjacent neighborhoods;
• spurring economic growth, particularly for local businesses;
• bringing meaningful work to neighborhood residents;
• creating a more positive public image of Visitacion Valley;
• developing alternative, transit-oriented, affordable and market-rate housing, while maintaining the integrity of the regiion in terms of density, services, and the environment.
